KVM Virtualization Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a KVM Virtualization Engineer (L3) to manage and support enterprise KVM-based virtualization infrastructure. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in Linux and virtualization technologies with focus on high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), shared storage, and enterprise workloads. The engineer will play a key role in maintaining platform stability, performance optimization, and infrastructure transformation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and manage KVM, QEMU, libvirt, and virsh environments.
  • Implement and maintain HA/DR clustering solutions using Pacemaker, Corosync, and SBD.
  • Administer shared storage platforms (OCFS2, GFS2, SAN multipath, iSCSI, Fibre Channel).
  • Perform VM lifecycle management including provisioning, cloning, migration, and decommissioning.
  • Execute VMware to KVM migration activities.
  • Configure and manage virtualization networking (Linux bridging, bonding, VLANs).
  • Monitor virtualization infrastructure performance and ensure high availability.
  • Perform troubleshooting related to CPU, memory, storage, networking, and NUMA alignment.
  • Apply patches, security hardening, and compliance configurations.
  • Collaborate with application, database, storage, and network teams for issue resolution.
  • Provide 24×7 support during critical incidents and maintenance windows.

Required Skills

  • 6–8 years of experience in Linux & enterprise virtualization environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with KVM virtualization stack (KVM, QEMU, libvirt, virsh).
  • Solid Linux administration skills (SUSE / RHEL).
  • Experience with HA/DR clustering technologies (Pacemaker, Corosync, SBD fencing).
  • Knowledge of enterprise storage systems (OCFS2, GFS2, SAN multipath).
  • Experience in VMware to KVM migrations.
  • Understanding of virtualization performance tuning (CPU pinning, HugePages, NUMA).
  • Good knowledge of networking concepts (bridging, VLANs, bonding).
  • Scripting knowledge in Bash / Python for automation.
  • Understanding of virtualization security and hardening best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SUSE KVM / OLVM / RHEV environments.
  • Exposure to CloudStack / OpenStack Open shift integrations.
  • Experience supporting SAP or enterprise application workloads.
  • SUSE / Red Hat certifications (SCA, RHCE, etc.).
  • Exposure to monitoring tools such as Prometheus or Grafana.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues independently.
  • Capability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to technically convince customers and stakeholders.
